This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and the Town may change these duties at any time.Establishes contact with victims of crimes and personal tragedy, either in the immediate aftermath of the crime or on a follow-up basis.Provides immediate crisis intervention and initial emotional support as needed and provides information on counseling available for long-term assistance.Adheres to and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, such as the Colorado Victims Right Act (VRA), and Colorado Crime Victim Compensation Act.Ensures that victims are aware of their rights under the Colorado Victim Rights Act (VRA) and the Colorado Victim Compensation Act.Informs victims of the status of their case through the initial phases of investigation, up to the filing of the case with the District Attorney’s Office.Assists victims with the return of their property being held in evidence.Reviews offense reports to identify victims who may benefit from the services described herein and contacts those victims to offer service.Collaborates with other community services providers to ensure safety and support of victims.Develops and maintains a positive and productive working relationship with other members of the Department and the Town’s Municipal Court to provide high quality and complete support services for victims through a teamwork approach.Maintains a professional and positive rapport with the District Attorney’s staff and their victim assistance personnel and programs, the District, County and Municipal Courts and their staff, and other law enforcement agencies and their victim assistance programs.Develops and delivers community outreach, education, and training on victim rights, legislation, available resources, and related policies.Performs other related duties as assigned.

If required by the position, the employee may operate a personal or Town-owned vehicle. General and Sensory RequirementsThe employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers to handle or operate objects, tools, or controls. Duties may also require stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing stairs or ladders, and maintaining balance. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, both in person and over the phone, and must be capable of operating a vehicle if required by the role. Vision requirements include consistent near and far visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus to allow a broad field of vision.Light Physical DemandsThis position is primarily sedentary in nature. The employee must be able to exert up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. EnvironmentPhysical presence onsite is required. Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but employees holding this position may respond to varied indoor and outdoor locations including emergency response environments. The noise level is typically quiet but can be variable depending on activities or location. This position occasionally involves work in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, wind, or precipitation.
