Job Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented entry level Associate Legal Counsel to join our growing US based legal team. The successful candidate will support the legal department in ensuring company operations align with all applicable laws and regulations. Key responsibilities span real estate and leasing, labor and employment law, litigation support, contract drafting, corporate governance, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

Real Estate & Leasing:

  • Assist with drafting, negotiation, and review of lease agreements for new and existing properties.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for real estate transactions.
  • Advise operations teams on lease compliance and related issues.
  • Prepare lease abstracts for operations.
  • Draft construction contracts for the construction of new stores and remodeling existing stores.
  • Ensure alignment with local zoning laws and land use regulations.
  • Assist in obtaining, renewing, and maintaining business licenses for multiple locations & jurisdictions.
  • Liaise with government and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Maintain records of all licenses and related documentation.

Labor & Employment:

  • Provide advice and legal counsel on labor and employment-related matters.
  • Conduct and coordinate internal investigations of complaints as needed.
  • Represent the organization in matters related to employment discrimination, wrongful termination, and wage and hour disputes.
  • Provide training and guidance to human resources and management on labor and employment issues.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.

Litigation Support:

  • Coordinate with outside counsel to ensure alignment with company objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Oversee the collection, review, and production of documents in response to subpoenas, discovery requests, and internal investigations.
  • Coordinate with business units to ensure proper legal holds and data preservation.
  • Prepare summaries and risk assessments for internal stakeholders.

General Legal Support:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Conduct legal research to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Assist with pre-litigation matters, dispute resolution, and coordination with external counsel.
  • Monitor legal developments and help update company policies accordingly.
  • Contribute to the development of internal risk management and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility for in-house counsel registration.
  • Strong legal reasoning skills with a business-oriented mindset.
  • Exceptional leadership, research, negotiation, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Highly organized, with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus.
