Bank Controller | Greater Philadelphia Area

 

About the Role:

The Controller position is a key opportunity for a financial professional looking to blend strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a well-run community bank environment. Reporting directly to the CFO and overseeing two staff accountants, the Controller will focus on financial reporting, liquidity management, and assist with investment portfolio oversight. The position plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity, optimizing risk, and driving strategic decision-making.  This is a great fit for someone who thrives in a hands-on role but is ready to take a broader leadership track in a stable, community-focused environment.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Prepare monthly internal P&L reports and external annual reports
  • Manage day-to-day liquidity
  • Maintain financial records and ensure reconciliations across departments
  • Prepare documentation for tax filings and coordinate with the external tax firm
  • Serve as primary contact for outside auditors
  • Develop and maintain advanced spreadsheets (including VLOOKUPs and automation)
  • Collaborate with the CFO on investment activity and participate in ALCO, ERM, and related committees
  • Presents and recommends strategies to the Board of Directors and Investment Committee quarterly
  • Oversee AP and support implementation of payroll processes (planned for next year)

 

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in banking or financial services
  • Strong accounting foundation with working knowledge of debits and credits
  • Experience coordinating with outside auditors
  • Familiarity with internal monthly P&L and external annual reporting
  • Understanding of call reports (review level)
  • Liquidity and cash management experience in a deposit-rich environment
  • Experience preparing estimated tax payments for external filing
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, automation)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with financial systems and reporting tools

 

Additional Considerations:

  • Prior interaction with investment brokers (buying/selling securities)
  • Familiarity with CECL (formerly ALLL)
  • Investment experience, including presenting portfolio strategy to a board
  • Exposure to accounts payable and payroll
