Key Elements

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Philanthropy Officer will lead a comprehensive philanthropy program including identifying and securing donors, stewarding existing relationships, overseeing fundraising events, and developing community partnerships.

Working collaboratively with the leadership team, you will provide insights, develop strategies, and lead execution to meet current and future fundraising goals, develop the philanthropy team, manage marketing and public communications, and advance our ability to deliver programs and create positive change.

The Details

  • Collaborate with the CEO, program leadership, Board of Directors, and philanthropy team to identify and refine priorities, and develop strategies to achieve our ambitious goals
  • Ensure strategic philanthropy program management including identifying and cultivating donors, donation solicitations, and stewardship
  • Identify and close major gifts from individual and institutional sources while modeling effective approaches and techniques, as well as transparency and collaboration
  • Develop strategies and collaborate with CEO and CFO to establish planned and legacy giving programs
  • Oversee annual fundraising events to ensure success
  • Build knowledge, stay informed, and provide insights on legal and technical issues related to philanthropic giving and community nonprofit issues and opportunities
  • Communicate the organization's impact, including storytelling and positive narratives, to raise awareness and compel donor support
  • Help build a thriving, collegial, effective work culture that reflects and embodies our values and commitments
  • Prepare reports and presentations on philanthropy program results and development activities for organization leaders and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure effective, ongoing, and productive communication including consistent and effective marketing to donors and the general community across a variety of channels and platforms
  • Engage in community outreach and maintain positive relationships with donors, participants, the community, and business leaders.

Capabilities & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years’ experience in fundraising, philanthropy, and nonprofit management.
  • Proven capability managing nonprofit fundraising programs and systems, with nonprofit CRM experience and technical knowledge a plus
  • Exceptional relationship building, communication, and strategy skills, as well as ability to collaborate, influence and inspire both donors and participants
  • Capability to learn and engage philanthropy best practices along with experience developing and integrating giving programs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with leaders, board members, and program leaders on successful development activities.
  • Proven experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from individual and institutional sources including prospect discovery and creating effective strategies to motivate new donors
  • Resourceful and adept at developing and executing effective strategies
  • Able to drive accountability for self and others while acting as a coach and mentor to a growing team
  • Values-driven and committed to leading by example, elevating institutional goals, and ensuring efforts and results reflect our mission
  • Emotional intelligence with excellent interpersonal skills including navigating touchpoints and sensitivities for vastly different groups and individuals
