Position Summary: The clinical educator works within a specialized discipline to partners with leadership in the design of relevant education, as well as partner in the integration and deployment of that education across the system in collaboration with Obstetrical Nursing Leadership at additional Guthrie facilities. This role is intended to be a specialist within one or two disciplines of nursing, allied health, or related specialty areas. Clinical Nurse Educator for the LDRP department including all phases of care in LDRP (OB Triage, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, LDRP OR, and High‐Risk Nursery). The Clinical Educator utilizes evidence‐based principles and practices in educating the staff in these areas. Provides continual education and professional development opportunities to staff based upon needs and system initiatives. Implements programs for staff to achieve optimal patient care outcomes ‐ utilizing professional organization standards, and magnet standards. Contributes to increasing safety on the units through education and participation in quality improvement programs. Develops and implements annual development plan for designated units.

Education, License & Cert: Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Master's in Science in Nursing degree or related field preferred. License and Certification: Required: RN License to practice professional registered nursing in the state of Pennsylvania. Preferred: Certification in the nursing practice area to include: Nursing Professional Development certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC); or Academic Nurse Educator from the Nation League for Nursing (NLN).

Experience: Two years minimum clinical experience in Inpatient Obstetric care nursing. Three (3) to Five (5) years clinical experience preferred. One year of nursing leadership experience preferred. Preferred: Prior experience in clinical nursing teaching, curriculum design, course development in a nursing academic organization and/or staff development preparation and delivery in acute healthcare setting or clinical Simulation Learning environment.

Essential Functions: 1. Effective leadership and interpersonal skills; verbal and written communication skills; current knowledge of professional and health care issues and nursing practice. Well organized. 2. Develops plans and presents educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competence in the learner. 3. This role includes developing educational programs based on learning needs, safety concerns, and clinical issues as well as supporting the growth of shared governance and EBP projects. 4. Works with intra‐or interdisciplinary teams, brainstorms and problem solves and participates in strategic planning. 5. Serves as a change agent at the organizational, facility and department level. Facilitates the initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change and influences the necessary policies and procedures. 6. Assists individuals and groups in defining problems, identification of internal and external educational resources, and selecting educational options. Provides feedback to the learners and organization related to the effectiveness of the learning and learning activity. 7. Integrates research into practice and develops staff members’ knowledge and skills in the research process, as well as fosters the use of systematic evaluative research with regard to clinical, educational, and managerial data. Evaluates outcomes of educational endeavors and tracks learner outcomes in line with evidence‐based practice. 8. Manages overall program activities, including human and monetary resources. Ensures that educational activities are congruent with the organization’s mission, vision and goals. Models behaviors that reflect participation and leadership in activities within the organization, such as serving in key roles on committees, councils, and administrative teams. 9. Partners in the development and implementation of clinical skill/competency development solutions, in service of the unit, department, entity/system high risk/low volume activity. 10. Develops and implements clinical skills development solutions for changes in clinical practice, including documentation. 11. Partners in development and implementation of onboarding programs, transition residency programs, clinical academic partnership placement, continuing education deployment, safety training across the organization. 12. Helps move clinical staff through changes by partnering in the adoption of new clinical practices on the unit. 13. Provide clinical coaching to staff in order to drive adoption of new tools. 14. Serves as a clinical skill development consultant to management for assigned client groups: discusses and identifies skill development needs and participates in the evaluation and monitoring of competency development programs, life support programs, onboarding programs, student placement needs, and processes as well as continuing education efforts. 15. Partners with Unit Based Council to collaborate on evidenced based practice changes and implementation. 16. Maintains Unit Level entity documentation for clinical competency. 17. Partners with Coordinator in the storage, filing, and documentations for accreditation purposes. 18. Regularly communicate with client group to determine needs, outcomes, and satisfaction. 19. Identifies issues and troubleshoots them as appropriate.
