Cloud Engineer (AWS, Terraform, Containers)

*6-month Contract to Hire*

Hybrid: 3-4x a week onsite in Plano, TX

Optomi, in partnership with our premier client in the manufacturing industry is seeking a highly motivated Cloud Engineer to support and advance the development of secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.

The role will participate in daily engineering initiatives and ensuring adherence to internal cloud architecture standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain automated, modern cloud environments
• Promote and enforce best practices for development and operations, including coding standards and automation workflows
• Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools in production
• Lead by example in areas like DevOps, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and cloud operations
• Help shape a mature DevOps culture by mentoring peers, contributing to team growth, and supporting Agile practices
• Maintain clear documentation of design decisions, repositories, and operational processes (e.g., ADRs, Confluence)

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on Cloud Engineering experience
• 1+ year of experience in software engineering
• Strong development background, including Git, source control, CI/CD pipelines, and in-code documentation
• Advanced skills in Terraform and/or AWS CDK
• Proficiency in scripting and automation with Python, Bash, Ansible, Helm, and Make
• Solid AWS/cloud platform experience
• Familiarity with networking and services such as EKS, ECS, WAF, Lambda, API Gateway, and IAM
• Proven ability to implement infrastructure with security, high availability, and resilience in mind

Preferred Skills

• Experience with CDK using Python or TypeScript
• Knowledge of AWS Control Tower, Organizations, SCPs, and AWS Config
• Background in full-stack or backend software development (Java, Go, JavaScript, etc.)
• AWS or equivalent cloud certifications
