Job Description

Description Seeking an experienced Controller to oversee financial operations for a nonprofit organization based in the Newington, Connecticut area. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in nonprofit accounting, budgeting, and compliance to ensure the organization's financial sustainability. The ideal candidate will act as a key advisor to the leadership team, offering insights and solutions to drive the organization's fiscal health. Responsibilities: - Manage all aspects of financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, payroll, cash flow, banking, and investments. - Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership to lead the annual budget planning process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. - Implement and maintain effective internal controls and fiscal policies that adhere to nonprofit industry standards. - Prepare accurate financial statements, oversee annual audits and other reporting requirements. - Develop detailed budgets and narratives for grant and contract applications to support funding efforts. - Monitor and report on grant and contract expenditures, ensuring accountability to funding sources at the private, state, and federal levels. - Review and process subcontractor payment requests, providing guidance and oversight as needed. - Supervise and support the accounts payable team to ensure efficient daily operations. - Collaborate with program staff to allocate grant funding appropriately and manage contracts effectively. - Provide clear and concise financial reports to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and other stakeholders, tailored to their respective needs. Requirements - Proven experience in nonprofit accounting and financial management. - Expertise in grant accounting, including federal grant compliance and reporting. - Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation and budgeting processes. - Proficiency in forecasting and month-end close procedures. - Ability to communicate complex financial information to diverse audiences effectively. - Experience supervising financial staff and ensuring operational efficiency. - Familiarity with nonprofit best practices and internal control systems. - Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to support organizational sustainability.
