Job Description

Carney, Sandoe & Associates, an education recruitment firm, is currently seeking a French and Spanish Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year at an independent school in New York, NY.

French and Spanish Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Teach several sections, with a combination of French and Spanish, to students in grades 6–12.
  • Developing lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students.
  • Conducting research on teaching methods, materials, and language games that can be used in class.
  • Scheduling and preparing students for oral and written examinations.
  • Monitoring student's progress by writing up reports and grading assessments.
  • Organizing feedback sessions with students and their parents if applicable.
  • Offer learning recommendations and schedule intervention sessions for students requiring additional support.
  • Teaching students about Spanish and French culture, which may include festivals, traditional food, and dress, and social conventions.
  • Serve as an advisor for middle or high school students.

French and Spanish Teacher Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in Spanish, French or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of previous teaching experience.
  • No teaching license or credential is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities.

Additional Desired Qualities:

  • Willingness to work with middle school students.
  • Passion for foreign language education.
  • Desire to be involved in school-wide initiatives and extracurricular activities.
  • Knowledge of ACTFL standards preferred.
