Job Description

Effective lower elementary teachers foster strong relationships and cultivate an open, welcoming, and enriching learning environment. They design engaging lessons that embed foundational skills and deliver targeted Tier 1 interventions. Additionally, they promote positive social skills, provide diverse literature to inspire reading, and facilitate inquiry-based and Project-Based Learning (PBL) activities. Collaboration with inclusion staff to support student needs and active participation in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs)—analyzing student data, refining instruction, discussing interventions, and assessing progress—are also key responsibilities.

The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers in every classroom. With the exception of designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) positions, the minimum qualification to apply for a teacher, librarian or counselor position is a Bachelor's Degree.
