Operations Performance Engineer

Location: Houston, Tx or Ontario, Cali

Travel: Up to 50%

Reports To: Director of Operations Performance

The Operations Performance Engineer reports to the Director of Operations Performance and is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives across our cargo handling network. This role focuses on identifying performance gaps, analyzing operational workflows, implementing standardized best practices, and partnering with field leadership to ensure consistency, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial engineering, logistics, or process improvement, and thrives in a high-intensity, results-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support continuous improvement projects using Lean, Six Sigma, DMAIC, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct time studies, capacity modeling, and workflow analysis to eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Develop and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and visual management tools across stations.
  • Partner with station leaders and training teams to ensure adoption and long-term sustainability of best practices.
  • Monitor KPIs, identify trends, recommend corrective actions, and validate improvements.
  • Support station launches and expansions by designing optimal layouts, staffing models, and process flows.
  • Facilitate cross-functional projects across Operations, Safety, Training, and Technology teams.
  • Create process documentation, job aids, and training materials to promote standardization.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) in cargo operations workflow optimization and labor productivity.
  • Travel to field stations to support implementation, audits, and frontline engagement (50%+ travel expected).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (required)
  • 3+ years of experience in operations engineering, process improvement, or a similar role, preferably in logistics or aviation
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred)
  • Strong analytical skills; advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and process mapping tools
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Familiarity with WMS, data systems, and operational analytics
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate in fast-changing, high-growth environments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence both frontline teams and leadership
  • Experience in cargo handling, distribution centers, or time-critical logistics
  • Understanding of e-commerce or high-velocity logistics workflows

Work Environment

  • Operations run 24/7; flexibility required for early or irregular start times depending on business needs
  • Day-to-day schedule typically aligns with standard business hours
