Position Overview

The Project Executive is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing multiple large-scale projects and the Project Managers who deliver them. The PE provides strategic direction, ensures profitability and performance, develops and maintains long-term client relationships, and upholds Wagner’s commitment to safety, quality, and integrity.

This role is pivotal in mentoring project leadership teams, supporting business development efforts, and representing Wagner Construction as a trusted partner in the industry.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level oversight of multiple projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Lead and mentor Project Managers, Project Engineers, and field leadership teams.
  • Build and strengthen client, agency, and subcontractor relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Review and approve project budgets, schedules, and risk management strategies.
  • Guide contract negotiation, administration, and compliance with legal/owner requirements.
  • Ensure accurate forecasting, financial reporting, and profitability across assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with estimating teams to pursue new work and support bid strategies.
  • Champion safety culture and compliance on every project.
  • Represent Wagner Construction at client meetings, industry events, and business development functions.
  • Resolve complex project challenges and provide decisive leadership to keep projects on track.

  • Ensure consistency in project delivery standards and best practices across teams.
  • Oversee timely project closeout, client satisfaction, and warranty commitments.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and professional development of high-performing staff.
  • Maintain visibility in the field with regular site visits.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performance culture across all departments.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive experience in heavy civil, underground utilities, or site development projects, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple large projects simultaneously.
  • Strong track record of business development, client relationship management, and contract negotiation.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction processes, contract law, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Bluebeam, and estimating/project management software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Bid).
  • Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on project involvement.
  • Willingness to travel and work at various project sites as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment with frequent travel to job sites.
  • Extended periods at a desk using a computer, with regular meetings and phone calls.
  • Regular field exposure (outdoors and indoors) to active construction sites.
