Job Description

Job Summary:

We’re seeking an experienced General Commercial Underwriter within our Property & Package Division. In this role, you’ll assess and evaluate commercial insurance submissions, determine risk acceptability, and structure terms that align with our underwriting guidelines and risk appetite. You’ll work closely with brokers, agents, and internal teams to deliver responsive, solution-oriented service while maintaining strong underwriting discipline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review insurance submissions and supporting documents to evaluate the insured’s risk profile, occupancy, construction, and exposures.
  • Analyze loss history, claims trends, property characteristics, and exposure modeling to determine risk acceptability.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to ensure competitiveness while maintaining profitability.
  • Collaborate with peers and management to ensure underwriting decisions align with company standards and portfolio objectives.
  • Maintain strong broker relationships through clear communication, responsiveness, and market expertise.
  • Stay current on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory requirements impacting property lines.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience.
  • Proven experience as an Underwriter or similar role in the insurance industry.
  • Proven ability to assess complex property risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Active Property & Casualty license (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong understanding of property insurance forms, endorsements, and rating methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation skills a plus.
  • Proficiency with underwriting/rating software and Microsoft Office programs.

Salary: $70,000 - $110,000 depending on experience, plus bonus at managers’ discretion

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid, 3-days in the office)
