Job Description

I am a recruiter with a 70+ year old manufacturer with 3 product lines who seeks an experienced Sr. Buyer who has the ability to eventually take over the department. Great upside career potential

Primary Purpose of the role: Procure required materials for production. Optimize inventory levels. Ensure the MRP system is up to date for purchased components. Negotiate material pricing. Improve vendor relations. Qualify and track vendor performance to ensure product quality, price, on-time delivery and specifications are met. Achieve company goals.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Run MRP for daily purchasing requirements.
  • Create PO’s and communicate requirements to vendors via email, fax or phone.
  • Processes purchasing transactions according to company policies and procedures.
  • Manage relationships with new and existing vendors, monitor their performance and address any issues to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues.
  • Process requisitions from various departments.
  • Communicate requirements to vendors via email, fax or phone.
  • Communicate status of requisitions as needed to keep them aware.
  • Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value or aids business performance and collaborate on continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, contracts and supplier information.
  • Deliver updates and create reports as required.
  • Support product change requests, manage forecast demand, plan inventory levels, establish safety stock (min/max) levels and communicate any impact on capacity plans.
  • Research & evaluate vendors (new or existing) to procure commodities that meet criteria of drawings, price, quality, quantity, availability, and delivery dates.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms and pricing agreements in line with company policies and procedures
  • Develop & implement strategies cross functionally and with suppliers to improve inventory turns, reduce material costs, reduce lead times, improve quality, and minimize scrap.
  • Effectively communicate in a timely manner any potential supply or demand issues that would have a negative impact on company's service or operations.

Key Competencies and Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years experience as a buyer in a manufacturing company, with a heavy emphasis on electrical/electronic components (PCB's, resistors, capacitors, amps, emi's, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the materials, products, and the commodities in assigned areas.
  • Strong computer background. Expertise with ERP/MRP software.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of purchasing.
  • Excellent organizational skills, excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience negotiating with vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
