Job Description

Position Overview:

The role of the Senior Employee Relations Specialist involves leading employee and labor relations strategies, managing performance, and enhancing manager training programs. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this position requires resolving workplace disputes, fostering union relationships, ensuring compliance with labor laws and agreements, and developing HR policies to support business objectives. Additionally, it involves managing a team of Employee Relations Specialists.

Responsibilities:

Employee & Labor Relations

  • Lead and guide the Employee Relations Specialist team to achieve swift resolutions aligning with company goals.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for employee, managerial, or union concerns.
  • Support resolution of workplace disputes, grievances, and concerns.
  • Improve labor relations strategies, including negotiations, grievance handling, and arbitration.
  • Oversee union-related data requests, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Represent the organization in legal proceedings like unemployment hearings and arbitrations.
  • Provide expert advice on employment law compliance (e.g., FMLA, ADA, EEO).

Performance Management & Compliance

  • Oversee performance management activities, including coaching managers and handling disciplinary actions (e.g., warnings, PIPs, and terminations).
  • Maintain accurate employee records in collaboration with the People Operations team.
  • Ensure adherence to union seniority rules and collective labor agreements.
  • Spearhead the annual recertification of the employee handbook

HR Training & On-Site Support

  • Design and conduct training for managers on topics like employee relations, compliance, and performance management.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure consistency in HR practices across locations.
  • Partner with leadership to improve workplace culture, engagement, and retention.
  • Analyze patterns and gather field insights to tailor management strategies.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of HR experience, focusing on employee and labor relations, with 2+ years in leadership.
  • Expertise in employment laws, labor relations, and HR compliance.
  • Proven experience in handling sensitive cases, union negotiations, and arbitration.
  • Leadership and coaching abilities to guide management effectively.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in HR software and data reporting tools.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (required).
