Position Summary

The Senior Conformal Coating Engineer leads the development, implementation, and optimization of conformal coating processes for electronic assemblies. This role ensures high-quality standards, compliance with IPC and MIL-STD specifications, and supports cross-functional teams in production, quality, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead process development and improvement initiatives for conformal coating (manual, automated, parylene, and selective coating).
• Define and validate coating parameters, masking techniques, and curing processes.
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure coating compatibility and performance.
• Troubleshoot coating-related issues and drive root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
• Develop and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, and validation protocols.
• Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610, IPC-CC-830, J-STD-001, and customer-specific standards.
• Support equipment selection, installation, and maintenance (e.g., PVA, Asymtek, SCS systems).
• Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians in coating processes
• Participate in audits and customer reviews as the technical subject matter expert.
• Monitor process metrics and drive continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in conformal coating engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or electronics manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of coating materials (acrylic, silicone, urethane, parylene) and application methods.
• Experience with automated coating systems and masking strategies.
• Familiarity with IPC and MIL-STD standards for coating and inspection.
• Proficiency in CAD tools, MES systems, and statistical process control (SPC).
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with conveyorized coating and vacuum deposition systems.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations related to coating materials.
• Hands-on experience with coating inspection tools (UV light, thickness gauges).
• Certification in IPC-A-610 or IPC-J-STD-001 is a plus.
