Title: Telecom Technician II
Work Location:Austin Texas 78744 (Onsite)
Duration: 24 months
Shift: Monday – Friday (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM)
Must Have
General Overview:
At an intermediate level, performs duties in the field to assist with planning, designing, installing, maintaining and operating fiber for telecommunication department.
· Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction from lead technician, manager and/or more experienced colleagues.
· Assists with installation and maintenance of field equipment with others. May perform final test, verify proper connection and release equipment for service. Interprets schematics, drawings and technical manuals necessary to install and repair equipment to specifications.
· Assists with providing proactive diagnostic and analytic measures to ensure system reliability and overall system health.
· Assists with advising on cost effective telecom solutions that meet stringent security and reliability requirements.
· Follows Telecom Incident and Change Management processes.
· Drafts, updates and follows detailed work instructions relating to telecom network maintenance.
· Documents changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record keeping practices.
· Documents work into logs, files, system prints and other records and through communications, both verbal and written, with other team members and supervisors.
· Maintains a clean work area; office, shop, field sites and vehicle
· Performs work by traveling independently or with a small crew to various locations as scheduled.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Two or more years of experience in telecommunications industry.
· Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
· Knowledge of fiber splicing and/or troubleshooting; OTDR, fiber characterization and other testing methods
· Knowledge of industry safety practice
· Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems
· Skill in verbal and written communication
· Skill in communicating effectively with team members, supervision/management and external organizations under normal and emergency conditions
· Intermediate skill level in office productivity applications (such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.)
· Ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision
· Ability to build relationships and foster teamwork
· Ability to work in a team environment
· Ability to balance and manage competing high priority work demands

· Work involves frequent finger/hand manipulation in use of test equipment and hand tools
· Work involves climbing, crawling, crouching or other non-sitting positions in punching down phone cable, testing, installations, and cable pulls less than 20% of the time
· Lifts and carries up to 50 pounds less than 20% of the time
· Pushes or pulls up to 50 pounds less than 20% of the time
· Work involves finger/hand manipulation in using a keyboard and mouse less than 20% of the time
