Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Private Equity Fund seeking an experienced Value Creation Associate to join the Portfolio Group. This is a career-track opportunity in a growing and highly dynamic portfolio operations team, with potential to directly impact the long-term strategy of the Portfolio Group. The candidate will have the opportunity to work across the investment lifecycle to enhance the performance of portfolio companies and work on deals, primarily in Canada. Creative thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit is strongly encouraged. The role has three main dimensions: Support investment teams in evaluating investments, coordinating due diligence (commercial, operational, financial, ESG, etc.) with advisors and developing the value creation plan (200-day Plan) for new investments Work with Portfolio Company CEOs and senior management to drive value creation. These critical strategic initiatives and projects will be varied in time and nature, and is likely to include aspects of: Setting up and steering transformational projects Leading specific short-term projects with management teams (including but not limited to value creation planning, M&A support, commercial effectiveness, finance transformation, etc.) Engaging with management on the company’s strategic initiatives and influencing the strategic agenda Championing high-profile initiatives aimed at improvement the company’s ESG profile Program managing at inception of projects Designing and leading internal growth and strategic initiatives Sample projects with Portfolio Companies include evaluating and implementing the company’s expansion plan into new product and geographic markets; optimizing and improving company supply chains and operations; evaluating and modelling pricing strategies; analyzing business cases for M&A opportunities; analyzing large customer data set to build new marketing strategies and improve customer experience. These will be hands-on roles, drawing on problem solving and execution related skills. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS ~ Relevant undergraduate degree, candidates with an MBA a plus ~3-6 years’ total work experience, ideally in a combination of a top-tier business consulting and operational management (generalist or specialist), or other relevant leadership roles in companies or private equity firms ~ High-performing and demonstrable track record driving strategic portfolio company value creation initiatives. ~ General strategy experience with spikes in one/many specific areas including: commercial effectiveness (pricing, market entry, go-to-market, or salesforce optimization), due diligence, operations, finance, M&A, etc. ~ Strong data analytics skills ~ Experience across sectors will be advantageous; deeper experience and interest in healthcare, consumer / retail, financial services, or business services a plus ~ Experience in private equity / M&A due diligence and/or value creation Personal Qualifications Relentless operational curiosity Strong structured thinking: ability to quickly understand the primary drivers of a variety of businesses, diagnose problems, and think through solutions, in a context of private equity investing Strong communication skills, including the soft skills needed to garner trust from senior management teams Ability to listen to and interact effectively with company executives and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds Highly motivated and energetic, with collegial and sharing work style Adaptability, resourcefulness, and work ethic needed to thrive on a small team Entrepreneurial, hands-on, problem-solving attitude suited for working with few subordinates or external intermediaries, but pro-actively seeking counsel when needed High professional integrity and sound business judgment when working with colleagues, potential partners, and portfolio management teams Lastly, but most important, an ability to check one’s ego at the door, to work with others in a respectful manner and at the same time be incredibly fact and data driven and productive COMPENSATION $250k
