We want your knowledge and expertise! **Job Summary and Qualifications** General Statement of Duties: The Cardiac Monitor Technician (CMT) will observe and interpret cardiac monitoring through continual recognition and documentation of rhythm tracings for adult and pediatric patients, as assigned. The CMT will also be responsible for escalation of any change in cardiac rhythm or rate to the nurse. Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics: + Education: None + Experience: None + Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (Adult and Pediatrics). + Preferred: Previous Cardiac Monitor Tech experience in a hospital setting. Essential Job Functions: 1. Continuously observes and accurately interprets cardiac rhythms of patients via the cardiac monitor. 2. Accurately analyzes electronic rhythm strips for ventricular rate, PR interval, and QRS duration and documents the rhythm type. 3. Notes changes in patient rhythm and documents trends when any new ectopic beat is observed, and/or when a change in pattern is observed; appropriately escalates rhythm changes to the nurse. 4. Recognizes life-threatening dysrhythmias and immediately escalates to the nurse. 5. Utilizes appropriate alarms/parameters and verifies settings to provide optimal patient monitoring, according to provider's orders or unit criteria. 6. Responds to alarms immediately and escalates to the nurse, as applicable. 7. Communicates with nurse to troubleshoot reception issues and lead placement. 8. Communicates promptly with nurse when the cardiac monitor indicates batteries are low and need to be replaced. 9. Informs nurse of equipment malfunctions and escalates through proper chain of command to ensure loop closure and resolution. 10. Gives/receives handoff report on all monitored patients to ensure continuity of care and patient safety. Additional Job Functions: 1. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. 3. Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself. 4. Completes other duties as assigned.
