Job Title: Codes & Testing Engineer – Residential Roofing

Location: Washington, IA or McDonough, GA

Department: Material Science & Engineering

Reports To: Director of Material Science

Position Overview

Brava Roof Tile is seeking a meticulous and proactive Codes & Testing Engineer to lead our product certification and compliance initiatives. This role is pivotal in managing third-party testing processes, ensuring our synthetic roofing products meet or exceed industry standards for fire resistance, wind uplift, impact resistance, and other critical performance metrics. The ideal candidate will serve as the liaison between Brava and external testing agencies, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to maintain and advance our product certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Third-Party Testing Management: Coordinate and oversee all aspects of third-party testing, including scheduling, sample preparation, and documentation, to ensure timely and successful certification outcomes.
  • Code Compliance Oversight: Interpret and apply relevant building codes and standards (e.g., UL, ICC, Florida Building Code, TDI, etc) to ensure product compliance and guide product development.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain up-to-date records of all testing activities, certifications, and compliance documents. Prepare detailed reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Sales teams to integrate compliance requirements into product design, testing, and marketing strategies.
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay informed about changes in building codes, testing standards, and certification requirements to proactively address potential impacts on Brava's product lines.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Support: Provide technical support and guidance to customers, contractors, and internal teams regarding product certifications and compliance-related inquiries.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Materials, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in product testing, certification, or compliance within the building materials or construction industry.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with roofing systems, building codes (e.g., IBC, IRC), and testing standards (e.g., ASTM E108, UL 2218, TAS 125).
  • Industry Representation: Participate in industry associations, standards development committees, and working groups, such as ASTM and PEPA, as a subject matter expert to influence and stay ahead of regulatory and testing trends. Represent Brava in key forums to promote awareness of synthetic roofing innovations.
  • External Liaison: Build and maintain relationships with testing agencies, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities to support Brava’s long-term certification strategy and enhance our industry credibility.
