Kane Street Kids is a progressive, intimate Jewish preschool in Cobble Hill dedicated to building a community where all children and families feel safe and connected. We welcome families and teachers from both Jewish and non-Jewish backgrounds; everyone belongs here.

About the position

Kane Street Kids seeks qualified, dynamic, patient, and collaborative Part-Time Teacher for our Gentle Separation program for toddlers ages 14-26 months the 2025-26 school year. This position is part-time, with the teacher working 8:30-10:45am on Tuesdays and 8:30-11:30am on Thursdays. The Gentle Separation program is a grown-up-and-me class for children and an adult. We will spend the start of the school year supporting children to feel comfortable in a new learning environment. We will then work on slowly supporting the separation process as children turn 2. The teacher for this program may also be added to our substitute teacher roster, if desired.

Details

The start date for this position will be approximately August 25, 2025. The last day of the term for the 2025-26 school year will be June 12, 2026, but this program may begin later and end sooner. Teachers do not need to be Jewish to apply, but we ask that all staff is comfortable learning and teaching about Jewish holidays and traditions.

Responsibilities

Our Gentle Separation teacher will lead a classroom of up to 6 children with the support of each child’s home adult until the child turns 2.

The Gentle Separation Teacher's responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every child in your classroom based on protocols put forth by the school and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • Collaborating with parents and caregivers to prepare for and support the separation process.
  • Curriculum planning and implementing developmentally-appropriate, differentiated emergent curriculum.
  • Regular communication with parents throughout the year, including reflection, suggestions, and updates after separation.
  • Regular communication with Preschool Director, including planning and reflection.
  • Classroom set-up and maintenance which includes keeping toys and surfaces clean and sanitized.
  • All general tasks involved in the smooth running of a creative, developmentally-appropriate classroom.

All Head Teachers will need to complete online trainings in health and safety and other topics, consent to a background check and fingerprinting through the DOHMH, and submit a completed health form and other paperwork for their files. Files must be complete before you may begin working in the classroom.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors degree required. (If Bachelor's degree is not in Early Childhood Education or a related field, candidates must show proof of enrollment in an Early Childhood Education or related college or university program.)
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with young children ages 0-2 in a formal setting (classroom, camp, daycare).
  • Openness to feedback and learning around teaching and instruction.
  • Interest in using emergent curriculum techniques and implementing identity-based studies.
  • Desire to partner closely with parents/guardians/caregivers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Kind, loving, patient demeanor with infants/toddlers.

Preferred:

  • Head/Lead Teaching experience in an infant/toddler program.
  • Experience educating/working with families.
  • Proficient in Google Drive and SeeSaw.

Compensation

The compensation for this position is $40-45 per hour, depending on applicants’ qualifications.
