Job Description

Job Title: Patient Care Technician

Location: Edison, New Jersey

Schedule: Nights – 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (3x12s)

Duration: 13 weeks, with possible extension based on performance

Shift Requirements: Every other weekend, 1 holiday per season Department: Float Pool – including ED Holding

Job Summary:

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is responsible for assisting Registered Nurses in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients. The PCT supports clinical operations, enhances patient comfort, and performs a wide range of patient care duties across various hospital units, including floating as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Welcome patients and verify ID bands.
  • Assist with patient admissions, physical exams, and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy using proper aseptic techniques on patients from newborn to geriatric.
  • Conduct EKGs as directed.
  • Provide direct patient care including hygiene, toileting, oral care, feeding, and bed-making.
  • Record and report vital signs, blood glucose levels, weights, and intake/output.
  • Assist with turning, positioning, and mobility — especially for patients on oxygen, trachs, or vents .
  • Support safe patient transport and respond promptly to call lights.
  • Prepare patient rooms for admissions and maintain cleanliness of equipment.
  • Monitor and restock supplies in assigned areas.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare team members.
  • Adapt care based on age, cultural background, language, and cognitive needs.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Patient Care Technician (Required)
  • Experience working with respiratory support (oxygen, trachs, vents) (Required)
  • Must be able and willing to float across departments, including ED Holding
  • Required Certifications:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • EKG Course Certificate
  • Phlebotomy Course Certificate
  • Completion of an accredited PCT program
