Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Location: Iron Mountain, MI (Hybrid – Onsite Mon–Wed, Remote Thu/Fri)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to manage weekly payroll processing for union employees, maintain payroll data integrity, and support compliance with legal and audit standards. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong Excel proficiency, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll for 600+ union employees.
• Create upload files for retirement plan and HSA contributions.
• Perform accurate data entry and updates for job, salary, and personal information.
• Maintain and update complex Excel workbooks for payroll operations.
• Handle garnishment entry and payment processing.
• Resolve discrepancies between payroll system data and employee records.
• Ensure compliance with audit standards, internal controls, and SOX requirements.
• Provide frontline support for employee payroll inquiries related to time entry, deductions, and taxes.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and payroll data.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
• 3–5 years of payroll processing experience (end-to-end preferred).
• Prior union payroll experience highly preferred.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Experience in collaborative, high-volume payroll environments.
